But what makes me, man, first of all, I was born and raised here, like, in Raleigh, North Carolina. So that was dope to come back here to do this interview. And then, you know, I moved to Charlotte and really started doing the music heavy. You know, I started in college, Campbell University. Shout out. To Campbell University.

Yeah. And then. And then I. When I graduated, I started going hard on the music. And I think my style is very unique, especially when I do these performances with other performers. I can tell that, you know, my music is a lot different and well taken by the crowd. So, you know, that's what makes me different. I really. You wouldn't even notice. Some people don't notice. Most people, I'll say. But I don't even curse in any of my songs, you know, so it's like clean music. So I can perform, you know, wherever. I could probably go to a church right now, you know, and perform my music, because I ain't even really cursing, you know, I probably got one song that I could probably do in the church right now.

Talk to me about differences, similarities, like, what's life been like for you with Raleigh, and then how has it helped you grow to kind of move over to Charlotte and bring up with both of those cities? Oh, man, a fantastic question. So in Raleigh when I. When I was here, man, like, downtown wasn't really. Wasn't really much. Like, my grandma, Mamie Walker, she used to come. Come downtown here to Raleigh and feed the homeless, and there was nothing here. There's like, there was not much going on here. Just, you know, just helping out the people that needed help out here. Just, like, I don't want to say a bunch of homeless people laying around, but, you know, it is what it is. And then. So then I moved to Charlotte, bro. And then we had the Panthers Downtown, you know, and then we had the Hornets Downtown. And I was just like, yo, this is completely different. Like, I was staying in this building, and you could go out on the patio and just out, like, overlook the whole downtown.

And I was like, yo, this is where I need to be. Right? You know, so. And. But now. But now Raleigh is, like, booming.

The identity of the Beat Cave. Right now, let's talk about the process. What was kind of the creative process with some of those tracks? Like, what was getting it going? What were kind of some steps along the way that got it from that beginning concept to really being what G4 became.

You know, every song on there has, like, his own little story, and I've been working on that album for a long time. The thing is, like, when I first got signed to Manifest Music, we Started making music right away. But we just, we kind of focused on making singles and putting out singles and trying to get popular, you know? Know what I mean? And before we.

Before we did the album. And I'm also on the label with a guy named LaTruth, you might be familiar with him. So, you know, we had all these songs in the vault. And so what I hear other artists call it, that's what I'm gonna call it. We had some songs in the vault and. And then LaTruth dropped this song called Drop It Low. And it got like a lot of spins everywhere. And it was like, it was big. And I was associated with him and my name sp, somehow out of nowhere started getting big. So were like, man, this is the perfect time to drop the album. And, and the rest is history. We, we decided to pull some of them old songs. And I really, like, I'm telling you, it was like two songs a week.

I would go to the studio on like a four hour session and drop two songs because my studio is expensive. It ain't my studio. So I had to get it in. And you know, like, for that song that's okay, and it's good. I got my brother here with me. Cause that song that's okay was a whole nother song. I can't even remember what it was called. It was like, let's get it or something. It was something weird. But I sent it to my brother. I was like, he was like, man, put it out right now. And then I got to send it to his daughter, my niece. And she was like, nah, that ain't it. And I was like, dang, that's crazy. So I sent it to my manager. He was like, nah, that ain't it. And I was like, man.

But yeah, I. It was. It's tough. Any artist can. I'm sure, can relate to what I'm saying. Like, I had to redo that song and it was like, I'll just do it. And it ended up being better. And I was like, dang, that's hard, though.

Actually, a friend of mine heard my mixtape I saw before. So I was getting old, you know, I mean, I'm not gonna talk about my age, but, you know, everybody's getting old. I can say that, right? So I was getting older and I was like, man, I need to get out here and get a job or make this music, hit some Way. So I was on my own. On my own completely. And I decided to do a mixtape. You know, it's just like get some song. Probably stole the beats and for sure make some songs and. And put it out and put it on a disc and burn all the discs myself and hand them out or whatever. So I did that. I mean, I made them in my kitchen, you know, I had a little area in the kitchen in my.

That's why I said, I'm gonna tell my age out here, but. But yeah. So I put that together and I gave it to a friend of mine and. And he's actually like, they were fraternity, as always. Campbell didn't have any, so. And the girls are different name. Isn't it like a sorority? So, yeah, so I don't want to mess it up. My manager was in a sorority with this guy that was a good friend of mine, and he showed it to my manager before he was my manager. He's like, man, I like that because at the same time, I didn't curse in the music because when I first started, my mom was my biggest fan. That's who. I listened to all my songs. That was who I. No, no. My brother sitting right here, making a face. It was my mom.

She used to listen to all my music and loved it, even if she didn't love this. She said. So I couldn't curse because my mom was going to hear it right after I finished recording. So I still wasn't. I wasn't cursing or anything. And he liked that aspect, just as you did, and the rest is history. He picked me up, he started his own label and. And now we're getting it in.

I always put my people on. Me and my family. I don't even know if they put me on like this. But Chelsea Locklear, the first song is called G4. That's the name of the first song. And it's like all my music, you know, for the most part is. I'm trying to make like a single, like I said, that'll hit on the radio or something like that. So when I had an album, I was like, I can't just have all computers completely singles on this. So I. I did that first song to make it like, more personal. It has more personal things that I've been through in that song. And so Chelsea Locklear is on that song and her voice is amazing. Anybody that you know in Charlotte, y' all need to hit Chelsea Lock there up. I'm sure her prices are decent.

I was meaning to ask you this later, honestly, but with the industry, how it's changing, a lot of people have mixed opinions, I think, on what to do, especially as an independent artist. Go the label route or go. I mean, I think there's no right or wrong answer. But hearing your experience, I really like how I think it comes down. You gotta have a team. You gotta have people riding behind you.

My parents started a church when I was young, so they didn't have any people on the instruments, so they put my brother on the guitar. My mom was on the keyboard, and my mom was singing as well. My dad played a basic guitar. I don't know why he did that.

No, no, no. My dad, he probably played that first day, and then that was it. And then. And then I was on the drum set. Okay. I was late, but I went there and I saw her, like, kissing on this other dude, man. And I was like, boom. You know, my friends were rapping at the time, and I was like, man. And they were recording. I was just like, doing some freestyle stuff. Like, some. We did punchline freestyles and battling each other in the door. I remember one one, and I was like, talking about.

This is when I knew I had some. Some A gift. The two guys that were ganging up on me, they were wearing a red shirt and a yellow shirt. And I was like, how you got me battling ketchup and mustard? And then, yo. And everybody ran out the dorm room. They were just like. And that was the end of it. It wasn't like nobody said, like, that's the end. Like, that was the end of the whole battle right there. And so that's when I knew I wanted to do something. And so I contacted those dudes when I got my heart broken and we put a song together. And I can feel it in my heart. I was about to sing some of it, but I can't remember. And after that, I started making music, doing little mixtapes.

Talk to me a little bit about how you've adapted and grown with how the industry has changed. I mean, what have been some of your experiences with what you've seen, what you do differently now that maybe you didn't have to do when you were getting started? That kind of stuff, I would have.

To say, like, kind of staying. Staying up to date with what is going on. So if you remember back in the day, you know, when our music started popping, like getting popular, and then the old heads were like, man, them kids don't know what they talking about that music. You know, I'm trying not to be that person, you know what I'm saying? I'm just trying my hardest. And, you know, I remember one of the hardest times was when TikTok came out. You know, that was really my, like, man, you know, these young cats around here don't know what they doing. I had to back up, like, whoa. I told myself I wasn't going to be that person. So just trying to stay up to date, you know.

I heard Andre 3000 do the interview where he was talking about they were saying, why are you not doing music anymore? He's like, well, the main part of being doing hip hop is to be hip, you know, and he's like, I'm getting older, so how am I going to be hip? So I'm trying to make sure I kind of stay hip, you know, to stay in this little hip hop world. So my music, I don't, you know, you can kind of tell the difference between some old school type music and what they're doing these days. So I try to stay true to myself, but also have A little bit of that new school swag in my music. Exactly. Just to stay relevant and just to stay with how everything is going right now. Also, social media is extremely important now.

But at the end of the day, I mean, I really started using social media this last year and I've even. Just putting your stuff out. You already see results, I feel like. So, yeah, just getting it out there for sure is huge. And I don't think that was really something you had to do even, what, 10 years ago maybe.

And you know, I posted it on my social media. So that was a really, like. I'll never forget that. That was the. That was one of the top actually open for a long time ago, which nobody will ever remember. Dmx a long time ago when I first started. But Rip. Yeah, Rip dmx. But, you know, he was so late to the show, I didn't even get to see. See him. Like I had to go somewhere and I was trying to wait and wait, but he was so late, I didn't even get to see him. But I did open for him.

The first. I think the first show I did with my. Okay, so the first real show I did was, like, at Campbell University. I think my brother came out there, too. And. And. And. And Campbell is a really. It's a Christian school. They actually have a class called CEU or something like that where. Where everybody has to attend. And it's, like, in a big auditorium. And I remember there's a big cross up there in the back and on the stage, and. And they play church music or whatever. I got so bored of listening to that, I ended up playing drums for that. So. So I didn't have to sit there all the time. I played. So I didn't have to attend the class because I was actually in the class. But. But, yeah, so I put together a show.

Me and my roommate put together a show for me and all. I mean, I feel like a lot of the campus showed up. It was pretty big for my first show. And that's why I think sometimes I had, like, a leg up. Because a lot of artists start in the street and they just, you know, got their neighborhood or whatever. But I had people from all over, you know, college. When you go to college, people from all over the world are at the college. And so I had a big show there. And I'm telling you, the cross was in the back. I took off my shirt. I didn't care. I went crazy at that show. You gotta come use my mic. Ain't nobody set up your mic. But. But I went crazy at that show. And. And I think it was. It was funny.

I had all kind of people come on the stage with me. It was. That was very memorable. I still got a picture on my social media from that. That was a very memorable show for my brother because the first time I ever seen him perform in that auditorium, it was about 150 people. Yeah, it was. It was a lot of people. It was a state.
