Hermajesty
Welcome back to WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1 Raleigh. This is Hermajesty. And I'm here today interviewing Collin and Rocky of NoFi. They just released their self titled EP Nofi on SoundCloud & Bandcamp. But without further ado, I'll let you guys introduce yourselves.
00:19
Collin Musolf
What's up? I'm Collin.
00:22
Rocky Mercer
I'm Rocky. We're in No Fidelity.
00:25
Collin Musolf
Yeah, we're in No Fidelity.
00:27
Rocky Mercer
I play drums.
00:28
Collin Musolf
I play guitar most of the time. Well, yeah, we switch.
00:30
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, we switch.
00:30
Collin Musolf
It's kind of cool. Yeah, sweet.
00:37
Hermajesty
Can you guys. Can you guys describe no. 5 for. For new listeners who may have not have heard y' all yet?
00:44
Rocky Mercer
It's. It's loud. Yeah, it's really loud.
00:48
Collin Musolf
It's fast. It's. It's punk, but it's. It's really riff driven.
00:55
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
00:56
Collin Musolf
Punk.
00:56
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
00:57
Collin Musolf
And it's kind of weird and it's.
01:00
Rocky Mercer
It's fun.
01:01
Collin Musolf
It's a lot of fun.
01:01
Hermajesty
I think.
01:02
Collin Musolf
I think that's what's important. It is pretty weird.
01:08
Hermajesty
It's definitely a lot of fun. Where do you guys. Where do you guys find a lot of the inspiration for your lyrics?
01:17
Collin Musolf
That's. Our lyrics are kind of.
01:20
Rocky Mercer
It's kind of like silly stuff. It's. We're not.
01:23
Collin Musolf
Yeah.
01:24
Rocky Mercer
We don't think very hard.
01:25
Collin Musolf
It could also be just spur of the. Like, usually when we're writing something together, we just. We sing something as like a scratch vocal track, but it will end up just being the lyrics because we can't do anything better. So there's different ways. But I don't know. I think there's a lot of sci fi kind of themes.
01:46
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, yeah.
01:47
Collin Musolf
We do.
01:48
Rocky Mercer
We do go into that a lot.
01:49
Collin Musolf
Robots, X ray visions, lasers, stuff like that. So I guess that's a common theme. But it was not on purpose.
01:56
Rocky Mercer
No, it's just kind of like what's going on in our head.
01:59
Collin Musolf
Yeah, I guess.
02:01
Hermajesty
Nice. When you guys. When you guys said in. In your song, Robot Bobot. Robot Bobot. Robot Bobot. Robot Bobot. What did. What did that kind of mean? What were you guys.
02:18
Collin Musolf
Man, that's really just a deep question right there.
02:21
Rocky Mercer
Yeah. We could talk a lot about it, honestly.
02:24
Collin Musolf
Okay. I'm trying to bring. I'm trying to remember us writing that song. The lyrics. Because I have a faint memory.
02:31
Hermajesty
Yeah.
02:32
Collin Musolf
Of us doing something. I think. I think the day we wrote that song earlier, we had said something about robot. We're trying to figure out Robot Bobot something.
02:42
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, it was.
02:43
Collin Musolf
I said Robot Bobot. It was a joke.
02:44
Rocky Mercer
Robot. It was a joke.
02:46
Collin Musolf
And then, like, were laughing at it, and then. And then we wrote that song, and then were like, well, we should come up with some lyrics. And that was just, like, the thing. And so that ended up being the main part of that song.
02:58
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
02:58
Collin Musolf
And we never really changed it. And it's. It feels stupid sometimes, singing it. And honestly, there's no. I wouldn't want it either way. No, no.
03:09
Hermajesty
Yeah, it's definitely. It's definitely really fun when you guys played it live.
03:13
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, It's.
03:14
Hermajesty
It's.
03:14
Rocky Mercer
It's a good chance.
03:15
Collin Musolf
It's.
03:15
Rocky Mercer
And. And Robot Bobot is very charming because.
03:18
Collin Musolf
It's just so dumb.
03:19
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
03:20
Collin Musolf
So stupid.
03:20
Rocky Mercer
It's very. We didn't think about it.
03:23
Collin Musolf
There's not. Not a lot of effort, honestly, to make anything, like, clever. It's just. But now it's like a character in my head. Like. Yeah.
03:33
Rocky Mercer
It's cemented. Like, it's stuck. Like.
03:35
Collin Musolf
Yeah. It's in the lore of definitely.
03:40
Hermajesty
Yeah. How long have you guys been playing music together.
03:46
Collin Musolf
As NoFi?
03:48
Rocky Mercer
Since, like, December.
03:50
Collin Musolf
December of last year. As Just playing music. We started playing music in eighth grade. Yeah, I would think. But it was.
04:02
Rocky Mercer
It was very, like. It was weird.
04:04
Collin Musolf
It was weird. I didn't play any instruments. I always just kind of singing, and I was just kind of saying, like, what we should make songs about. And Rocky could play. Like, I could play. Yeah. So we ended up making a. A little EP called Buffalo Nipples, because, of course, were in eighth grade, so that's important to remember. It's on SoundCloud, if you can find it.
04:28
Hermajesty
Yeah.
04:28
Rocky Mercer
It's under Skull Sock is the artist.
04:32
Collin Musolf
Skull Sock, I think.
04:33
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
04:33
Collin Musolf
Yeah, it's pretty.
04:34
Rocky Mercer
It's pretty out there.
04:35
Collin Musolf
Songs such as Big Forehead, Battlesnake, Burger, and your Mom, I think was actually the other name of this, if you can find that.
04:47
Rocky Mercer
It's an interesting listen.
04:48
Hermajesty
Yeah.
04:49
Collin Musolf
Something weird.
04:49
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
04:50
Collin Musolf
That's when we started playing music anyway.
04:51
Hermajesty
Yeah.
04:52
Collin Musolf
And then we kind of messed around with, like, the idea of a band, and then we formed Laguna. That was kind of. We just hadn't really stopped yet. We just kept doing it in different combinations.
05:05
Hermajesty
Nice. Was that kind of in eighth grade, like, when music clicked for you guys, when you guys were like, this is what I want to do?
05:11
Rocky Mercer
No, not for me, at least. I don't think it clicked until, like, our third Laguna show. That's when I was like, oh, wow.
05:20
Collin Musolf
This is actually pretty cool. I think I was like, I didn't. I never Knew I wanted to, but I think I always wanted to. Like, I was always really. I liked music. I was raised hearing a lot of cool music, and I always. I always wanted to, but I guess I thought I couldn't. And then I actually, like, got older and just was like, I'm just gonna do this, and. Yeah, I mean, I started playing drums because we needed a drummer, but I ended up feeling, like, really attached to it. I really liked that.
05:49
Hermajesty
Nice. You guys. You guys just graduated from high school. Like, what is next for you guys? And how is that kind of gonna affect the music?
05:58
Collin Musolf
Well, we're. We're both not going to college next year, and I mean, you know, a lot of people are moving away and. But we're staying in the exact same spot. So we're just gonna try to practice, like, every week, try to just write.
06:17
Rocky Mercer
A bunch of stuff, make a lot of music.
06:19
Collin Musolf
So hopefully sooner rather than later, there will be another NoFi release. I think it'll happen pretty soon. Yeah, definitely. Just because we want the output to be. To, like, reflect all the free time we're gonna have, you know, I want there to be a lot of stuff. Yeah. Yeah.
06:39
Hermajesty
Nice. I found you guys through the. Through the Charleston music scene. And how is. How is coming up through that and sort of refining if refined is where you guys think you're at now to become what you guys are now currently.
06:57
Rocky Mercer
I don't know. That's. I think we always, like.
07:00
Collin Musolf
Well, I don't know.
07:02
Rocky Mercer
It's. We were. We were, like, pretty young, so it felt kind of weird being around, like.
07:08
Collin Musolf
Yeah, were playing shows where everybody was, like, five years older than us. Yeah, it was kind of weird.
07:13
Rocky Mercer
And weren't from Charleston. Like, were showing up to play. Like, it always kind of felt like weren't really in the scene. We just kind of were there.
07:21
Collin Musolf
But I always. I always felt like people like this, but the Charleston music scene, like, downtown Charleston, like, honestly, like, I wish it was different, and I think that has a lot to do with the music we write. Yeah. Yeah.
07:38
Rocky Mercer
It's a lot of, like, easy, easy listening stuff, and, yeah.
07:42
Collin Musolf
Very soft stuff, which is awesome. I don't have anything against that. No, really. But I want. I can't remember last time I saw, like, a punk band or, like, a rock band that was, like, doing it and younger, you know?
07:58
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
07:58
Hermajesty
Yeah.
07:59
Collin Musolf
And, like, so that's kind of what I want to bring to it.
08:03
Hermajesty
Yeah. So are you all from Somerville or.
08:06
Collin Musolf
Yes.
08:07
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
08:07
Collin Musolf
Yeah.
08:07
Hermajesty
Okay. I'm glad.
08:09
Collin Musolf
Charleston is. Yeah. That's just easier to.
08:12
Hermajesty
Yeah.
08:13
Collin Musolf
Rather be gripped in with that. Because there's like, nothingness.
08:16
Hermajesty
No, I know. I appreciate that you guys make the distinction. That's always. That's a big.
08:22
Collin Musolf
Yeah.
08:25
Hermajesty
So what kind of makes Nofi different than Laguna? I guess, besides the name and personnel? What. What kind of defines a Laguna song versus a no fi song?
08:40
Rocky Mercer
It's kind of. Laguna was a strange band. It's like the way were doing it was like. I don't know. We weren't really trying to write Laguna songs. We were just doing whatever were thinking of. So it's kind of like all over the place.
08:53
Collin Musolf
There was no vision. No.
08:55
Rocky Mercer
And we didn't. We didn't talk a lot about it. We just kind of.
08:58
Collin Musolf
There was no communication. Like. And now we talk. We all talk about stuff where it's like, I wish that was different. And we're like, oh, yeah, so did I. Yeah. Why don't we ever say anything? Because were just weird, like, uncomfortable, hormonal beasts. Like, I mean, of course, I am still one of those.
09:13
Rocky Mercer
But it's a little different now.
09:15
Collin Musolf
It's like, now we understand if we want, you know, if we want. What am I trying to say?
09:22
Rocky Mercer
We can get the vision out.
09:23
Collin Musolf
Yeah, yeah. If we want it like a concept, we talk about it.
09:27
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, yeah.
09:28
Collin Musolf
And we figure it out.
09:29
Rocky Mercer
It's a lot more collaborative.
09:31
Collin Musolf
And also we just kind of took a break. Like the pandemic, of course, kind of killed our band. So we took a break from playing. And then no fight just kind of happened after me and Rocky started hanging out and a little bit more often, one one. And I learned guitar. And I guess that's probably what makes it a lot different is I'm writing the melody. Writing songs. Yeah, yeah. Because in Laguna, I just add the drums and I mean, I help, like, write the songs. I guess that's probably the main thing is just who's writing the songs and what the. We actually have an idea in mind of how they should be.
10:09
Hermajesty
So when you guys talk about vision, is that more of a. More of like a timeline for the band or is that the. Is that where the song and the projects are going to go?
10:20
Rocky Mercer
I'd say more song wise because it's very. It tends to be like in the. In the moment type stuff. Like, some songs take longer to write, obviously, but I don't know, it's. You want to think far ahead, but you can. You can easily get carried away. So I try to focus on the stuff that's like, right in front of.
10:40
Collin Musolf
Us,
10:43
Hermajesty
You guys were saying that just kind of in the moment. So is it a lot of jamming and then you find something from that? Or how is. How is your songwriting process? Yeah, yeah.
10:54
Rocky Mercer
There's a lot of jamming, I don't think. Oh.
10:56
Collin Musolf
At least on this ep, there was one song that was written just externally. Yeah. Yeah. Soup was just. That was his song. He plays guitar on that. I play drums. Besides that, it's reversed. But that one, he. He recorded, and I heard it, and I was like, man, we should try to make this a no fi song. But the other ones was just us playing, like, I don't even know how it happens.
11:18
Rocky Mercer
No, it's just.
11:19
Collin Musolf
I don't remember.
11:20
Rocky Mercer
We just kind of stumble upon it and it's like. Yeah, we're like.
11:22
Collin Musolf
I like that.
11:23
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
11:23
Collin Musolf
We gotta keep going and add vocals and add different stuff and we just keep playing it.
11:28
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
11:28
Collin Musolf
Yeah.
11:29
Rocky Mercer
You gotta play a lot.
11:30
Collin Musolf
And that's pretty much how those songs come about.
11:35
Hermajesty
Where'd the band. Where the. Where'd the name Nofi come from?
11:41
Collin Musolf
I. I don't know.
11:42
Rocky Mercer
I think it's something that, like. It's an obvious progression from, like, mofi. It's like. It's just a stupid little play on it.
11:49
Collin Musolf
Yeah. It's a pun.
11:50
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
11:50
Collin Musolf
Well, Rocky has a list of words in his. In his phone. Or like a list of. Yeah.
11:55
Rocky Mercer
I just, like, write stuff down. Things that you've heard that I hear.
11:58
Collin Musolf
Yeah. And that was in there. And I forgot. I think it's just. We were talking about starting a band.
12:03
Hermajesty
Yeah.
12:03
Rocky Mercer
And I was like, I like. I like this name.
12:05
Collin Musolf
Yeah. And I was like.
12:06
Rocky Mercer
You liked it, too?
12:07
Collin Musolf
Yeah. I was like, that's awesome.
12:09
Rocky Mercer
It is.
12:10
Collin Musolf
I think it's pretty good.
12:11
Rocky Mercer
Yeah. Cause it.
12:12
Collin Musolf
It.
12:12
Rocky Mercer
It. It tells you what we're doing. Yeah.
12:13
Collin Musolf
It's like, oh, I get it. As soon as you see it, you're like,
12:19
Hermajesty
Yeah, the Laguna cuts are a little bit cleaner. What's the. What's the difference in recording? I guess, between.
12:25
Collin Musolf
Between.
12:25
Hermajesty
No, fine. Laguna.
12:28
Rocky Mercer
Laguna. Okay. Well, it's all. Where it's all, like, home recording. Like, it's all me basically, like, producing it, and I have no idea what I'm doing. Like, a lot of the Laguna stuff. I was going into it trying to sound, like, professional. I was like, how do I make this sound?
12:45
Collin Musolf
But it ended up sounding, like, not weird.
12:48
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
12:48
Collin Musolf
It sounded off, but they sound fine. But it's just.
12:51
Rocky Mercer
It's like, it doesn't. Because I don't Know how to make it sound professional. But with. With no Fi, it's like.
12:58
Collin Musolf
It's more about capturing just the performance. Yeah, there's a lot of live Laguna songs were most. They were all tracked. All of them.
13:04
Rocky Mercer
Every. Every bit was tracked.
13:06
Collin Musolf
Lay down drums, bass, then guitar and just to a click. But there's not a no Fi song to a click at all. No, no.
13:13
Rocky Mercer
We always play the songs together and then we play on top of each other.
13:17
Collin Musolf
Yeah, it's pretty much just like a live recording. Then we do like a little bit of overdub. We do vocals overdub and stuff like that. Whereas Laguna was trying. Like everything was isolated. Yeah.
13:34
Hermajesty
So that's how you guys record the most recent ep and what's kind of next for. For both bands in the immediate future.
13:41
Collin Musolf
So Laguna just started. We just kind of got back to doing it. Yeah, we're gonna do an album. We're writing. We're almost like pretty close, honestly, to writing, like finishing an album up and we're gonna record that and we're going to release it and see like what the.
13:59
Rocky Mercer
What the reaction.
14:00
Collin Musolf
Reaction is and, you know, if it's like, okay, cool, whatever, we're just going to kind of let it be its thing, you know. But if people really like it, I'd like to play shows and stuff again with that band, you know, I'd love to do this.
14:11
Rocky Mercer
It's great.
14:11
Collin Musolf
It's fun. No Fi. We are just. Right now we're really trying to get shows that's like important to us and write more songs and. Yeah, we. I'd like to do an album too, but I don't know, maybe we'll just keep doing singles or EPs and stuff just for a little bit while we're focusing on other stuff.
14:34
Hermajesty
What's like a venue that you guys really want to play?
14:39
Rocky Mercer
Like.
14:40
Collin Musolf
Like local or just anything.
14:42
Hermajesty
Just any. I mean. Oh, give me a. Give me a local one and give me a big overall one.
14:48
Collin Musolf
Yeah, I'd like to play Awondag Green again.
14:53
Rocky Mercer
Oh.
14:53
Collin Musolf
I mean, I know I've already played there, but that place is really cool.
14:56
Rocky Mercer
It's a great atmosphere.
14:58
Hermajesty
Yeah, Eddie's so cool.
15:00
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, he was great guy.
15:04
Collin Musolf
I don't know. I'd like to play the Tin Roof.
15:08
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, that was an area that seems.
15:09
Collin Musolf
Like that's all I can really think.
15:13
Rocky Mercer
The music farm.
15:14
Collin Musolf
I know. I don't even know if that really exists anymore, but.
15:16
Rocky Mercer
Oh, really?
15:16
Collin Musolf
I would always like to play there.
15:18
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
15:18
Collin Musolf
I don't even know how you get to that point, but yeah,
15:24
Hermajesty
Music's farm. Music Farm is cool, but. Yeah, I don't know if it made it through Covid.
15:28
Collin Musolf
I think it was, like, really struggling.
15:30
Rocky Mercer
Dang.
15:31
Collin Musolf
I didn't.
15:32
Hermajesty
The last show I saw there was September 2019, I think.
15:37
Collin Musolf
Wow. Any venue?
15:40
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, I just want to play anything anywhere.
15:45
Collin Musolf
I don't know. I can't think of cool venues.
15:47
Rocky Mercer
There's a video of Jay Retard playing in front of a record store on a street, and that's really cool. I'd like to play on a street.
15:55
Collin Musolf
Or there's that video of Ty Siegel where he's just playing in a forest.
16:01
Rocky Mercer
I'd like to do that.
16:01
Collin Musolf
I'd like to play in a forest. I can't.
16:07
Rocky Mercer
I don't know.
16:08
Collin Musolf
Maybe I. Maybe I thought I was more prepared to answer that, but, yeah, there's.
16:12
Rocky Mercer
I mean, I like to. I like to play in cool places. Like. Yeah, there's a slift played in, like, a bunker silo thing.
16:21
Collin Musolf
Missile silos.
16:22
Rocky Mercer
Yeah. That's awesome.
16:23
Collin Musolf
I like to do something that's, like, memorable, I guess.
16:26
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
16:26
Collin Musolf
Yeah, exactly.
16:28
Rocky Mercer
That's interesting to look at.
16:30
Hermajesty
I mean, if you guys can just like, sneak onto the Yorktown,
16:35
Collin Musolf
I mean, that would be legendary. Yeah, I think everybody would know. Yeah. How do you guys tire? Like.
16:50
Hermajesty
Oh, no, you go. And rocky.
16:53
Collin Musolf
No, no.
16:58
Hermajesty
How do you guys keep the energy up during. During your shows? Is it just like. Is it just like what you guys have been holding in, or is it just. How do you guys. How do you guys put that much out there when you guys go that hard?
17:12
Collin Musolf
It's purely like, some kind of monkey brain.
17:16
Rocky Mercer
I don't really know.
17:18
Collin Musolf
Just kind of being there. And at that point, I've been thinking about doing this all day, and I'm just. I'm so, like, oh, I'm so pumped. And then when I'm doing it, usually it feels like everything's going wrong.
17:32
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
17:32
Collin Musolf
So that kind of adds to it, but it's just kind of primal, I think.
17:36
Rocky Mercer
It's just, like.
17:37
Collin Musolf
You just kind of let it. You just kind of let it take you in, and it's over before you know it.
17:41
Rocky Mercer
Yeah. It happens so fast, but my head shuts off. I just.
17:45
Collin Musolf
Yeah, you're just doing it. You're like, I've done this before.
17:50
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
17:52
Hermajesty
You guys have kind of mentioned that you. You find a lot of your inspiration just, like, hanging out, jamming on stuff, just, like, words you find around you. But, like, who are your musical influences? What are you guys, like, listening to and being, like, what's like on your vision board for your projects almost.
18:10
Collin Musolf
Well, I think the obvious is like King Giz is. You can't really be writing like rock or psych rock stuff right now. Like, if you've heard that band, you are under their influence, I think at least a little bit because they're just legendary. But we really like the Ramones. We like Jeff Rosenstock. Jeff Rosenstock's cool VOCs. It's a big one for me. The White Stripes is fun. I like a lot of punk stuff.
18:44
Rocky Mercer
Death From Above.
18:45
Collin Musolf
Death From Above. Yeah.
18:47
Rocky Mercer
That's a big influence.
18:48
Collin Musolf
Influence. Big time. But anything that's really fuzzy and loud and just kind of scratches that itch.
18:56
Rocky Mercer
Yeah.
18:56
Collin Musolf
And my brain is like what I'm going for.
19:03
Hermajesty
Nice. Yeah, that really. It definitely hits a lot of beats. This is. This is kind of insane. Do you think. Do you think that Nofi could put out five albums in a year?
19:13
Collin Musolf
We could try.
19:14
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, I think we could. I don't know how good they'd be. You know, we could definitely write a bunch of songs.
19:22
Collin Musolf
Definitely not anytime soon, but maybe if I had the resources, I would definitely like to do something like that.

Nice. You guys. You guys have a lot of demos up of sort of Laguna. And a lot of what you guys put out is really raw. Like, do you think in the future that you would want to like record it or are you. Or is how you have it now a lot of like. That's the final form of it.
19:47
Rocky Mercer
It's tough because you hear the songs and it's like it sound. It doesn't sound good and you want it to sound better. And sometimes I like. I try to go back and record songs and sometimes you can't capture that energy of what you had on the demo.
20:02
Collin Musolf
What was there?
20:02
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, yeah. Because. Because whatever you did the first time, it really. It really meant something, you know. Yeah.
20:07
Collin Musolf
Some of the songs like My Living especially, I know like, I like what we put out, but there's a demo of that song that it sounds too. I think it sounds too awful to release, but it's. I don't think I'll ever be able to record that song like I was that day. But Laguna stuff. We are recording a couple of them. A few songs here and there.
20:31
Hermajesty
Yeah.
20:32
Collin Musolf
So maybe we'll be able to more like Faithful Cut.
20:37
Hermajesty
Yeah.
20:38
Rocky Mercer
I think for Laguna.
20:40
Collin Musolf
Any.
20:40
Rocky Mercer
Any rerecording will do it a lot of favors.
20:46
Hermajesty
You were saying that's sort of what you were feeling when you. When you originally did My Living. What what was that about?
20:55
Collin Musolf
I don't know. I think we, I think were jamming on, like, it was like a Thursday or something. It was just like an after work thing maybe, or maybe. I'm not sure. But I think that song is a lot about, like, what I was thinking about at the time. What, you know. Of course, a lot of the stuff, lyrics I write and things now are about, you know, my age and graduating high school and just, like, pressure, a lot of pressure on me. So that song, to me sounds like a release of something, but I don't really know what I was feeling. I can't remember. And like I said, I can't channel what I channeled when I recorded that demo. But the song is still there, and I think it's good.
21:42
Hermajesty
Yeah, it's definitely my mind. My favorite off the ep. Would you guys sell out if you guys had the chance?
21:52
Rocky Mercer
What do you mean by that?
21:53
Hermajesty
Like, I don't know, maybe write, like a, Write a soundtrack to a Hallmark film, like a song for a car commercial.
22:02
Rocky Mercer
I think my philosophy is if, if that's possible. And they let me, like, do what.
22:08
Collin Musolf
I want to do, what you want to do.
22:10
Rocky Mercer
I don't care.
22:10
Collin Musolf
Yeah, if it was like, I.
22:13
Rocky Mercer
Don't know if they want to change what I want to do, like, a lot. You know, it's like, then there's no point.
22:20
Hermajesty
But.
22:21
Collin Musolf
Yeah, that's a thin line.
22:23
Rocky Mercer
Yeah. And it's like, I don't know.
22:25
Collin Musolf
I, I, I'd rather do just. I'd rather, like, do everything DIY for my entire life and not make it than, like, just take the opportunity to do something and, like, be good, you know? I'd rather like. I don't know.
22:42
Rocky Mercer
I love making stuff, like, on my own.
22:45
Collin Musolf
Yeah. I will never want the control, the artistic, like, control to be out of my hands.
22:49
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, that's, like, scary because our recording and writing and playing, it's like, it's all, like, meshed together into, like, one.
22:57
Collin Musolf
Thing at this point.
22:59
Rocky Mercer
It's kind of hard to separate that sometimes.
23:02
Hermajesty
Okay, so it sounds like you guys wouldn't rerecord a Maroon 5 song.
23:09
Collin Musolf
That, I mean, maybe.
23:15
Rocky Mercer
No.
23:15
Collin Musolf
5. Like, Sunday morning. That could work.
23:20
Rocky Mercer
Maybe work.
23:22
Collin Musolf
If you guys like to do Pay phone.
23:24
Hermajesty
Payphone.
23:26
Collin Musolf
Yeah, I like that song, honestly.
23:29
Hermajesty
You guys could go on like, a large, like, national tour or something with one band or artist. Who would it be?
23:37
Collin Musolf
Oh, like, that's active right now.
23:40
Hermajesty
Anyone?
23:43
Collin Musolf
Anyone? Well, I don't know.
23:47
Rocky Mercer
I Don't.
23:48
Collin Musolf
Sabbath.
23:49
Hermajesty
Yeah.
23:49
Rocky Mercer
I would love to see and be around Sabbath.
23:51
Collin Musolf
And they went. I know they went to. They had to have gone to a lot of, like, just out there places. The Ramones. I know I already mentioned them, but they were playing just everywhere, so that would be fun. And it would be fun to open for the Ramones. I think that would be awesome.
24:10
Hermajesty
If you guys kind of dipped out of what your sound is now. What is, like, one genre that you would like to explore either in the future or just like, if you have the ability to.
24:22
Collin Musolf
We love doom metal. Yeah. Yeah, Yeah, I want to do a doom metal. No, fi. Something. I mean, we have songs.
24:31
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, we have some. Some, like, pretty. Pretty good.
24:34
Collin Musolf
Yeah, but we just don't. It's. We don't have the. Like, I don't know. We just don't want to do that yet. Yeah, we'll get there. I'd like to do shoegaze. Honestly, I'd love to do that, but, you know, I guess I just need more pedals, honestly, but I'd love to do that. I don't know. What do you think?
24:56
Rocky Mercer
I don't really know. I guess, like, I'm kind of doing what I want to do now, and I have, like, plans for the future, but it's not really, like, in my grasp yet, you know, because I want to make country music, but what am I going to do right now? I don't. I don't know.
25:11
Collin Musolf
Yeah.
25:14
Hermajesty
So what are you guys favorite crayola crayon color out of, like, the 96 pack of crayons?
25:25
Collin Musolf
Screaming green. Macaroni Yellow. Periwinkle. Dang.
25:32
Rocky Mercer
You know the names? I don't.
25:33
Collin Musolf
I don't know.
25:33
Rocky Mercer
I was just gonna say red, but I don't know any of the names.
25:37
Collin Musolf
Red. Simple but effective.
25:44
Hermajesty
It is simple, but red goes hard. I mean.
25:48
Collin Musolf
Yeah, right?
25:50
Rocky Mercer
I mean, it's a scary color.
25:54
Hermajesty
What is. What's something that we even touched on yet that you guys want the listeners or your fans to know?
26:03
Collin Musolf
Our EP is coming out on major streaming platforms in like, two days. The 30th, right?
26:13
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, the 30th.
26:14
Collin Musolf
So we've had a lot of people ask us about that. I feel like. So, yeah, it'll be there. Check it out. You can follow us on Instagram. No Fidelity Underscore. Shameless promo.
26:27
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, we try to do cool stuff, you know.
26:28
Collin Musolf
Yeah.
26:29
Rocky Mercer
Keep the people entertained.
26:30
Collin Musolf
Yeah, you look out for hopefully, like, music videos, physical release, stuff like that. All the. All that good stuff. I want to do that. Yeah. Yeah, that's about it.
26:40
Hermajesty
Any upcoming gigs?
26:43
Collin Musolf
No, I wish. We're trying to get that figured out. I think we're getting pretty close.
26:49
Rocky Mercer
Yeah, but once we have a release under our belt, that's like. Yeah, we'll be like. I think it'll be easier.
26:57
Hermajesty
Yeah, for sure. Well, thank you guys so much for joining me. This has been Hermajesty with NoFi on WKNC.
