Intro
Off the Record is the show from 88.1 WKNC in which DJs talk with artists about everything from their music to upcoming tours to former bandmates birthdays. Make sure to follow WKNC on soundcloud and Tumblr so you never miss the beat. Enjoy.

03:30
DJ Beowvlf
88.1 WKNC. You are just listening to some Skyler Gudaszwith I'll Be Your Man and I am actually accompanied by her right now.

03:41
Skylar Gudasz
Hello Raleigh!

03:44
DJ Beowvlf
She is in the flesh and that was recording but she's here with her guitar.

03:49
Skylar Gudasz
I am. Yeah, yeah.

03:51
DJ Beowvlf
Playing some live tracks later.

03:53
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah.

03:54
DJ Beowvlf
So that was off the record you put out about two years ago.

03:59
Skylar Gudasz
That's very early. 2016 was my last record, Oleander and yeah, been twirl around with that. Having the great old time and working on the new one right now.

04:12
DJ Beowvlf
Do you have any prospects on when that's going to come out or.

04:16
Skylar Gudasz
Oh no. What the. What the crystal ball says about that. But hopefully soon it's almost done. Most of the tracking is done or just sort of in that tying up phase.

04:31
DJ Beowvlf
So it's exciting.

04:32
Skylar Gudasz
It is very.

04:33
DJ Beowvlf
Never know how long. Like I know.

04:35
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, I'm in this tying up phase and I have been for 10 years. Oh boy.

04:41
DJ Beowvlf
Well, you also have A show coming up very soon.

04:45
Skylar Gudasz
I do. I'm playing this Saturday with Riley Walker and Nathan Golub at Kings in Raleigh. Gonna be the great time.

04:57
DJ Beowvlf
Wonderful. Are those artists local? Are they touring and coming to.

05:02
Skylar Gudasz
Nathan Golub is local and Riley Walker is, I believe, the Chicago dude. I've played with him before at some. We played the festival together in. In Galicia, in Spain, and he's fantastic guitar player and really looking forward to. To this show.

05:28
DJ Beowvlf
So you played the festival in Spain?

05:31
Skylar Gudasz
Yes.

05:32
DJ Beowvlf
That's awesome. When was that?

05:33
Skylar Gudasz
That was. That was in 2016. It was in the summer. They have this really amazing festival in Vigo, and it's on this little island which is in the bay in. In this city. And it's the cool festival because the lineup isn't revealed, so people just buy tickets, and then you take the ferry over to the island, and then on the ferry, they release the lineup.

06:01
DJ Beowvlf
Whoa.

06:02
Skylar Gudasz
So. But there's, like, no. And everybody has to, like, take the ferry back at the end of the night because it's the really small island and everything's, like, set up outside. It's really beautiful and. But. So I imagine it would be really fun to go as the. As the festival goer. So much so that, like, some of the people that, like, came to see the festival, like, would purposefully hide and not take the ferry back at the end of the night, and they would, like, try to, like, sneak and, like. And of course, they would be, like, probably the little intoxicated, and they would, like, sneak and, like, try to, like, hide behind bushes and stuff like that to get to, like, spend the night on the island with the artists or whatever. I don't really know what their mos.

06:48
Skylar Gudasz
Just maybe, like, constant party all the time 24 7.

06:50
Skylar Gudasz
But.

06:51
Skylar Gudasz
But. So that was always really funny. Inevitably, there would be, like, three or four, like, people at the end of the night who are just, like, pretty far gone, refusing to get on the boat.

07:04
DJ Beowvlf
Yeah, That's the really cool festival format. I don't feel like I've ever heard of anything like that here.

07:10
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, I don't know. I need to get on it.

07:12
DJ Beowvlf
Must pull some good people if, you know, they're willing to get on the ferry and stay there all day not knowing who's playing.

07:19
Skylar Gudasz
Oh, for sure. Yeah. Yeah, it's. It's really cool.

07:22
DJ Beowvlf
So how did you get set up with that? Did you, like, know about the festival and, like, asked to play?

07:27
Skylar Gudasz
I had. Through an agent. Yeah, the friend. Yeah, friend of the friend of an agent. Yeah.

07:34
DJ Beowvlf
Was that the first time you had gone to Spain.

07:37
Skylar Gudasz
That was actually. That was not the first time I'd been. But that was like, the first time I'd been in that area. And Galicia was really beautiful. And I've only ever been there for work, so it was. It was fun to be in that beautiful place and play music.

07:53
DJ Beowvlf
Yeah, that sounds like the really amazing experience. Does that. Have you played any other, like, international shows?

07:59
Skylar Gudasz
I. I have. I did. Most recently, I just did the European tour opening for Durham locals, the Mountain Goats.

08:09
DJ Beowvlf
Wow.

08:10
Skylar Gudasz
Which was super fun. That was the most. But, yeah, that's the most recent European van touring I've done. But, yeah, I did some in Spain for that. And I used to play with the group called Big Stars Third. And we did the lot of international stuff, too.

08:25
DJ Beowvlf
It seems like Mountain Goats always pulls local people on tour with them, which is awesome.

08:29
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, they're wonderful about that. Yeah.

08:32
DJ Beowvlf
Really supportive, classy thing to do.

08:33
Skylar Gudasz
Absolutely. Very classy. John Darnell. Great, great job. All the Mountain Goats.

08:39
DJ Beowvlf
So, back to the show this Saturday. What can you tell me about the other artists playing?

08:47
Skylar Gudasz
So, yeah, Riley Walker, I think he's playing in the trio now. And I, like. I don't know what he's bringing, but I've seen, like, he plays guitar. There's an upright bassist the lot of the times, and then I think the drummer is the trio setup. So, yeah, I don't really know if that's going to be what's going on, but as for me, I'm gonna have the full band with me. I'm really excited about that.

09:16
DJ Beowvlf
Do you often play full band or do you usually just play solo sets?

09:19
Skylar Gudasz
I do the little bit of both, but with this upcoming record, it's the little more rock forward, so playing more with the. With the full band is where I'm headed.

09:30
DJ Beowvlf
So is it kind of like the different style you've picked up, playing with full band?

09:38
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, probably. Yeah, I. I guess I don't think of it specifically stylistically. It's more based on the song structure and. But yeah, something that you figure out when you tour the lot solo is that it's really fun to play with the band. So I think that probably influenced the songs that I was writing and have been writing.

10:01
DJ Beowvlf
How did you pull these people together? Are they people you always play with nowadays, or.

10:07
Skylar Gudasz
It's kind of the rotating cast of characters. There's some newer folks, some people that I have been in cahoots with for. For the while, but, yeah.

10:20
DJ Beowvlf
Awesome. And that's what we're going to get the taste of the Kings on Saturday.

10:24
Skylar Gudasz
That's right.

10:24
DJ Beowvlf
As well as on the new record. Yeah. Sweet. So would you like to play the song live?

10:34
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, absolutely. I. Maybe I'll try to do this listen to Williams song, but I didn't actually write. We'll see if I remember the words.

10:44
DJ Beowvlf
Cover. Yeah. And this is Skyler Gudas. If you're just tuning in.

10:55
Skylar Gudasz
[Performing a cover of Lucinda Williams – Fruits of My Labour]

14:46
DJ Beowvlf
That was beautiful.

14:47
Skylar Gudasz
Oh, thank you.

14:48
DJ Beowvlf
You're welcome. So if you're just tuning in, that was Skyler Gudasz playing the Lucinda Williams cover, Fruits of my labor about.

14:57
DJ Beowvlf
Ask what that was called.

14:58
Skylar Gudasz
Yep. Yep.

14:59
DJ Beowvlf
So is she like the big inspiration for. For you? It sounds like I don't know your style. Kind of like. I wouldn't say it's similar, but it sounds very influenced.

15:09
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah. Well, that's the huge compliment. She is absolutely an inspiration for the lot of. A lot of things that I do. Definitely that maybe not necessarily so country influenced, but I just think that she has such the good gift with simple words and emotion and the way that, you know, she can just sort of sing the thing that like sound. It would. It sounds pretty totally normal. But then just because of the way she sings it, your heart totally breaks and she really knows how to. How to Drive those things home.

15:53
DJ Beowvlf
Yeah. I was sort of thinking, I guess your writing is the little bit similar, and then.

15:57
Skylar Gudasz
Oh, thank you.

15:58
DJ Beowvlf
She was talking about the flowers and then your album's oleander.

16:01
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah. Love flowers. Beautiful.

16:05
DJ Beowvlf
Oleander's the great one.

16:07
Skylar Gudasz
It's.

16:07
DJ Beowvlf
Isn't it poisonous, too?

16:10
Skylar Gudasz
It is poisonous.

16:11
DJ Beowvlf
Is that why you named your.

16:15
Skylar Gudasz
It's the dangerous flower. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. It's so beautiful. It's. It grows all over, like, most. Most of the coasts, like, all over the world. It's really. Really sort of everywhere, which is kind of cool. Yeah.

16:33
DJ Beowvlf
Sweet. Well, who else influences your music, I guess.

16:39
Skylar Gudasz
Well, these days I'm really inspired by Janelle Monae. I don't know if you've listened to her record, her new record. Really amazing. I just love her vision and her fearlessness. Somebody that I is like, in my DNA and I love so much is Joni Mitchell. But I also love, you know, the, like, the heavier. Heavier rockers, too, and the. I don't know if you would necessarily call Karen Dalton, like, the heavier rocker, but people. People with great stage presence and. And, yeah. And some bite to them.

17:28
DJ Beowvlf
Is listening to that music also kind of what made you want to play full band more and get the little bit more rock in your new record, which I haven't heard yet.

17:39
Skylar Gudasz
Well, I think. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Watch. It'll come out. It'll be like the softest thing you've ever did. I think that anytime, you know, just like, with any. Any artist, just like, absorbing the world around them, and that's, you know, oftentimes new art is the rejection of old ways or. But I think that's just constant, you know, reinvention. And whatever inspires you is. Is what you find magic. And you have to. You have to chase that.

18:15
DJ Beowvlf
I like that very poetic way of saying it. So how do you write your songs?

18:25
Skylar Gudasz
I.

18:26
DJ Beowvlf
It's the very broad question.

18:30
Skylar Gudasz
A lot of. I read the lot and I listen to the lot of music and then I write. I try to write whenever I can and as much as possible. And the times that are, like, most magical for me for inspiration is usually, like, late at night or early in the morning.

18:55
DJ Beowvlf
I definitely feel that.

18:57
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, it's like the. It's like the rest of the world sort of like tunes down the little bit and you can, like, tap into some other stuff. Not as, like, distracted by other things, but. Yeah, and then whatever. Sometimes it's words, sometimes it's the melody that you just are gifted with, and then sometimes nothing is happening and you're like, what am I doing?

19:26
Skylar Gudasz
And then.

19:27
Skylar Gudasz
And then you play the bunch of chords and you're like, well, I guess I'll do that.

19:34
DJ Beowvlf
So you said you write the lot. Do you ever, I guess, come up with your music first and then go back to something that you've like, written in the past and like, bring that to life?

19:45
Skylar Gudasz
For sure. Yeah, for sure.

19:47
DJ Beowvlf
So it's not always like them coming out at the same time.

19:50
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, not necessarily. That's like wonderful when that happens. But it's not necessarily always like that. Or sometimes I'll have the phrase that I'm like, oh, I know that will one day be something in the song, but it's like, hasn't quite found the song home yet. Or I'll have like the melody. Same goes. Goes both ways. And I think ritual in terms of trying to get you to that place of inspiration and magic, but that you have to just sort of try everything.

20:23
DJ Beowvlf
So it feels natural.

20:25
Skylar Gudasz
Mm.

20:26
DJ Beowvlf
Awesome. Well, it's almost three, so we have to play some top of the hour stuff, radio things. So play that and then maybe one of your recordings.

20:38
Skylar Gudasz
Sure.

20:38
DJ Beowvlf
Cool. Sounds great. What do we want to play over here?

20:42
Skylar Gudasz
Oh, wow. Why don't we play I'm so happy I Could Die?

20:50
DJ Beowvlf
Okay, cool. That was actually like my jam for the while. Not gonna lie.

20:54
Skylar Gudasz
Awesome.

20:55
Skylar Gudasz
Thank you.

20:55
DJ Beowvlf
That was like one of my driving in my car songs. I needed the little upper.

21:00
Skylar Gudasz
Heck, yes.

21:01
DJ Beowvlf
So I'm excited about that. All right, so this is Skyler Gudas. And we'll be back after some legal IDs and such.

21:20
Skylar Gudasz
I'm so happy I could die I'm so happy I could die Right now I'm so happy since you left me I could die Because I'm so happy Just kill me now. I'm so rich I don't need your money I'm so rich I get paid all the time I'm so rich you left me honey I could marry someone who would marry me just for my money. Get your tattoos, read your funny papers drink your coffee black I'm so happy what did you think this was? Me trying to get you back. I'm so lucky I sneak ass I'm so lucky the dealer lets me drink for free I'm so lucky since you left me Bet you've been wondering if I get lucky well,

23:39
Skylar Gudasz
I don't kiss.

23:39
DJ Beowvlf
And tell,

23:43
Skylar Gudasz
Get your tattoo, read your funny papers drink your whiskey. I'm so happy what did you think this was? Me trying to sweep you off your feet? I'm so happy. Just kill me now.

24:46
DJ Beowvlf
88.1 WKNC. You are just listening to the track by Skyler Gudasz that was. I'm so happy I could die. And if you're just tuning in, she is here with me right now. And yeah, we've been talking the little bit about the show she's got coming up this Saturday, and that's at Kings with Riley Walker. And could you remind me the other folks?

25:13
Skylar Gudasz
Nathan Golub.

25:14
DJ Beowvlf
Nathan Golub. And what time will that show start?

25:17
Skylar Gudasz
That's the really good question. Probably nine.

25:21
DJ Beowvlf
Probably nine. Yeah. I guess it always depends on how the venue's feeling that night.

25:27
Skylar Gudasz
So many factors. So many factors. It's probably nine.

25:30
DJ Beowvlf
Nine. Cool. So have you played Kings much before?

25:36
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, I've played it the few times. Yeah, I played some, like, Hopscotch Day party things there and.

25:46
DJ Beowvlf
Yeah, didn't you. Did you play the recent hopscotch? I did.

25:50
Skylar Gudasz
I played.

25:51
DJ Beowvlf
I saw that name. Oh, last year.

25:53
Skylar Gudasz
Yep.

25:53
Skylar Gudasz
Nice.

25:54
DJ Beowvlf
How was that the series?

25:55
Skylar Gudasz
It was great.

25:57
DJ Beowvlf
It was great. So you played the lot of shows following the release of Oleander?

26:02
Skylar Gudasz
I have. I've been all around.

26:04
DJ Beowvlf
And you just finished? Well, not just finished, but the few months ago, finished the tour with His Golden Messenger.

26:11
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, I was singing. Singing and playing the little piano with them.

26:16
DJ Beowvlf
Oh, so you're playing with them?

26:18
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, yeah. Wow.

26:20
DJ Beowvlf
That's amazing.

26:21
Skylar Gudasz
It was very fun. All such wonderful people. Such the great band to play with. Beautiful music.

26:30
DJ Beowvlf
Were you all friends or did they kind of like know your music and reach out to you or how did it.

26:36
Skylar Gudasz
We're. That band is like the bunch of. It is. It's like the bunch of friends. It's kind of like the neighborhood band. There's like the lot of people live close by. But yeah, I. I knew some of the people that work with that band and yeah, I sang on their last record that came out last year. Hallelujah. Anyhow.

26:55
DJ Beowvlf
And.

26:57
Skylar Gudasz
So, yeah, it worked out to do some dates with them and it was super fun.

27:01
DJ Beowvlf
Where did you all go?

27:04
Skylar Gudasz
We did.

27:06
Skylar Gudasz
We're in Texas the few times in Tennessee and out to New York. Did some East Coast. Yes, Us. Some Midwest stuff, too.

27:16
DJ Beowvlf
And they're. They're the fellow Durham band, right?

27:20
Skylar Gudasz
Yep.

27:20
DJ Beowvlf
Durham's got all the talent.

27:22
Skylar Gudasz
It does something in the water.

27:25
DJ Beowvlf
Awesome. So as far as this show goes on Saturday, are you mostly going to be playing tracks off the last record? Like what we just heard mostly new songs.

27:37
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah. It's another reason to come and hear the new stuff, which is really fun to get to try out new things.

27:46
DJ Beowvlf
Have they gotten much play, I guess, live yet, or is this kind of.

27:51
Skylar Gudasz
In the solo capacity? Just been like. It's one of the. Yeah. When you're figuring out the song, the great way to figure it out is to do it live. But yeah, they haven't really. Some of them are brand new, will never have been played live before, so.

28:09
DJ Beowvlf
Wow.

28:09
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah.

28:11
DJ Beowvlf
So have you played with this band live yet, or is that also kind of the newer thing?

28:15
Skylar Gudasz
This is the new.

28:15
DJ Beowvlf
This is this lineup first.

28:17
Skylar Gudasz
First little trip outside.

28:22
DJ Beowvlf
Whole brand new. It's like the brand new.

28:23
Skylar Gudasz
Just like the first day of high school.

28:26
DJ Beowvlf
So excited getting acquainted with this new situation. Cool. Well, what else do you have, I guess, coming up for you? Or is it sort of like just gonna be working on this new record after the show?

28:39
Skylar Gudasz
Working on this record. I've got shows the rest of the year, but in terms of what's announceable right now, I'm this show coming up and. Yeah. Finishing up this record.

28:52
DJ Beowvlf
Awesome. So you planned it, I guess, well in advance, all your shows for the year?

28:57
Skylar Gudasz
Mm, yeah. Got into them.

28:59
DJ Beowvlf
Do you book yourself or do you get help?

29:01
Skylar Gudasz
I do the combination of things. Yeah. Yeah.

29:06
DJ Beowvlf
Awesome. So you said you like to read the lot. I was wondering what are you reading right now?

29:13
Skylar Gudasz
Oh, my gosh. This is like so funny. I just finished reading this book called Radio Cacophony by Michelle Dove. Yeah, it's so fitting because it's about college radio DJs. It's perfect.

29:30
DJ Beowvlf
Oh, really?

29:31
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, you should totally read it.

29:32
DJ Beowvlf
Radio Cacophony.

29:33
Skylar Gudasz
Radio Cacophony.

29:35
DJ Beowvlf
Is it like fiction or the memoir?

29:38
Skylar Gudasz
I think that it's fiction. I haven't. I actually don't know what specific genre it's under, but there are these sort of like little vignettes on every page. But it is sort of narrative. It's very cool. I think you would like it as the DJ. Maybe. I don't know, maybe you'd have controversial opinions about it, but it's really cool. So I just finished that and I read the bunch of Dennis Johnson short stories recently. And I'm reading. I'm always reading like way too many books and it's really not.

30:18
DJ Beowvlf
Not great. For sure.

30:20
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah. Yeah. It's like. Yeah, short stories are like, almost worse in that way because you're like. You can just read the short story book forever, you know. So that's some of the stuff I'm reading. But I'm sort of always reading Bluets by Maggie Nelson. I Don't know if you've read that book, but sort of like radio cacophony and that there are these, like, little vignettes that kind of fit together but are their own little musings in and of themselves. Bluets is really spectacular too. It's kind of like my bible. I love it. So highly recommend that one to look.

30:57
DJ Beowvlf
This up now that I. Yeah, we'll have time to read.

31:01
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, yeah.

31:03
DJ Beowvlf
Graduating. In case any listeners didn't know that.

31:05
Skylar Gudasz
Happy graduation.

31:06
DJ Beowvlf
Sad but happy. So do the things you read influence what you write in your music? Or is your music more, I guess, drawn from personal things?

31:19
Skylar Gudasz
I mean, I think that it's always all. All related to what you're doing, what's going on in you. But yeah, undoubtedly. Everything I read, I'm sure, has an effect on what I'm writing. Sometimes more intentionally so than others if I'm like, thinking about the specific theme and I'll like, maybe try to read the lot about that. But I mean, I think there's the song on this recent album that I probably like, thought of the title actually when I was like reading Facebook. So there's even like, Facebook, that sort of thing.

31:54
DJ Beowvlf
The most inspiring place I know.

31:56
Skylar Gudasz
It's like, so not inspiring really at all, but it's still. I mean. Yeah, yeah, exactly. I really want to tap into that one.

32:07
DJ Beowvlf
So is that like what you do in the car?

32:09
Skylar Gudasz
Just like skim Facebook? No. Yeah, well, yeah, when you're on tour. I mean, I think most people, when they're on tour, you're probably on your. On your phone the lot or you're. You're trying not to be on your phone, maybe trying to read or listen to music or something.

32:29
DJ Beowvlf
How do you make the time go by?

32:32
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, the lot of reading, the lot of Instagram. Lotta. Yeah, just like talking with. Depending on, like, who's with your podcasts, of course.

32:43
DJ Beowvlf
Oh, yeah, those are. Those get me through my work day, honestly.

32:46
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, totally. Anytime there's the long drive, the podcast is great for that.

32:51
DJ Beowvlf
They make an hour fly by.

32:52
Skylar Gudasz
Totally.

32:53
DJ Beowvlf
If it's interesting.

32:54
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, yeah.

32:55
DJ Beowvlf
What podcasts are you listening to?

32:58
Skylar Gudasz
Oh, wow. I. Whoa. There's one that I. A new one that I started listening to. What is it called? Family Ghosts. I think that's like, people talk about their. Well, I love Snap Judgment. I think I might have heard. Heard it on Snap Judgment. But they, like, tell stories from their past or like their family has these, like, stories. You know, everybody's family, like, has these crazy stories and then People will, like, actually try to, like, get to the bottom of them to, like, figure out what really happened. And then sometimes it's like people find out these things that are, like, totally change their relationship to their family and their, like, identity.

And it can be really interesting to, like, think about that podcast makes me think about, like, what people, like, how important your, like, story, your self story is and your identity to, like, what you. Who you think you are and, like, how you see yourself in the world and. But that. That can. It's all sort of self perception.

34:00
DJ Beowvlf
Is it, like, reality? Wow.

34:03
Skylar Gudasz
So they say.

34:05
DJ Beowvlf
I almost feel like I don't know. When I'm listening to podcasts. I always think about, like, back in the day when people would just listen to the radio for entertainment instead of, like, watching TV or whatever.

34:15
Skylar Gudasz
Mm. Yeah.

34:16
DJ Beowvlf
Crazy how, like, you wouldn't think that, you know, you could get so, like, versatile or, like, in depth on, like, something that somebody just, like, listens to, but you really can.

34:26
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah. I'm sure there's, like, lots of psychology out there about, like, the sound of the human voice and stories and storytelling and that being super soothing to people, but, yeah, that's science. I mean, is it real?

34:47
DJ Beowvlf
Is it. Is anything real? Well, you got your guitar out. I did. How about play us the song?

34:56
Skylar Gudasz
Sounds good. This song is called Femme Fatale. It's the new one, and it's about death.

35:14
DJ Beowvlf
Okay, here we go.

35:21
Skylar Gudasz
[Performing her song Femme Fatale]

40:27
DJ Beowvlf
Wow. What was the name of that song again?

40:29
Skylar Gudasz
That song is called A Femme Fatale.

40:31
DJ Beowvlf
Femme Fatale. And that's off your not released record?

40:34
Skylar Gudasz
That's right. Here to hear first.

40:37
DJ Beowvlf
I feel like you have so much soul in your music. You don't even need the band.

40:41
Skylar Gudasz
Oh, thank you. You know, it's hard to sing the drum part.

40:45
DJ Beowvlf
That's true. I don't know if I. Well, I guess that's where beatboxing comes in.

40:53
Skylar Gudasz
I'm so untalented at that.

40:55
DJ Beowvlf
Have you ever tried?

40:57
Skylar Gudasz
I will save everybody the embarrassment of that by hearing me try to do that. There's many people who are great at it.

41:06
DJ Beowvlf
That's true. You don't have to try right now. Fair enough. Yeah. So those who have not heard, we've said it before, but if you're just tuning in, Scholar Gudasz has the show this Saturday over at Kings in Raleigh with Riley Walker and Nathan Golop.

41:29
Skylar Gudasz
That's true. That's true.

41:32
DJ Beowvlf
You're not doing anything this weekend. I feel like that is the thing to do.

41:36
Skylar Gudasz
It's going to be the great time.

41:39
DJ Beowvlf
So where can people find information on that show or tickets if they're interested in going?

41:44
Skylar Gudasz
Tickets on the King's website for the Riley Walker show. And yeah, also my Instagram, there's the link should be out there.

41:56
DJ Beowvlf
What are some social media venues that people can find you and your music?

42:00
Skylar Gudasz
So it's all under my name, which is spelled Skyler. S K Y L A R. And then Gudasz is G U D A S Z. If you Google that, I'm easily findable. That I know of. There's. Yeah, I'm on Instagram. You can listen to me on Bandcamp. Some of my stuff is there and then all my stuff is on Spotify and got some music videos on YouTube. Yeah.

42:33
DJ Beowvlf
Oh, nice. Are those music videos from your last album?

42:36
Skylar Gudasz
They are, yeah. But I'm. I have new music videos that are in the works for this next one, which I love that process of the album making too, because I. My background's in theater and film stuff.

42:51
DJ Beowvlf
So did you study that in college or.

42:53
Skylar Gudasz
I did. I studied theater in college and creative writing.

42:56
DJ Beowvlf
Where'd you go?

42:58
Skylar Gudasz
UNC Chapel Hill.

43:00
DJ Beowvlf
So you've been in the area for the while?

43:02
Skylar Gudasz
Yes. Yeah, yeah. Came here the while ago.

43:05
DJ Beowvlf
So do you like, I guess produce your own music videos? Like come with the concepts and everything?

43:12
Skylar Gudasz
Most of the ones that I've done so far, I did three for the Last record and they were all like collaborations. Did them with different directors and. Yeah, I've gone about the different way. Some I've like, had the pretty clear vision. Others have been more conversational or the directors has the initial vision.

43:38
DJ Beowvlf
Awesome. Well, I'm excited to see when those come out.

43:42
Skylar Gudasz
Me too.

43:43
Skylar Gudasz
Me too.

43:43
DJ Beowvlf
Have you already, like, I guess filmed them and everything or.

43:46
Skylar Gudasz
No, no, no. It'd be the little premature. I mean, I probably could, but don't.

43:50
DJ Beowvlf
Even have the music.

43:51
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, music's not quite done soon.

43:53
DJ Beowvlf
That's true.

43:54
Skylar Gudasz
Not quite yet.

43:55
DJ Beowvlf
But there's important.

43:55
Skylar Gudasz
There's plans in the works.

43:57
DJ Beowvlf
Awesome. Well, that is all very exciting.

44:00
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah.

44:01
DJ Beowvlf
Wait to see how it all pans out.

44:04
Skylar Gudasz
Me too.

44:04
DJ Beowvlf
I know we don't have the. Would you say like this next year, like, following?

44:09
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, I hope so. I hope so.

44:12
DJ Beowvlf
Awesome. So I guess aside from the show, is there anything else you got going on besides the album? That.

44:19
Skylar Gudasz
That's most of it right now, yeah.

44:21
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah.

44:21
Skylar Gudasz
Shows, Shows an album, reading the lot. Trying to be outside as much as possible. Trying not to read the news.

44:30
DJ Beowvlf
Oh, yeah.

44:32
Skylar Gudasz
In small doses.

44:33
DJ Beowvlf
Small doses. Is that what you do when you're not playing music? Just.

44:36
Skylar Gudasz
Just sit there and read the news?

44:39
DJ Beowvlf
I hope not. No. You're terrible. Do you just like to read and be outside?

44:45
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, for sure. Go to the ocean, look at the moon, listen to all of the artistic things people bring into the world.

44:54
DJ Beowvlf
Is music your full time or do you.

44:57
Skylar Gudasz
It is my- It's mostly my full time. Yeah. There's in between when you're not touring, you know, you're not really. You have to get creative about making money.

45:08
DJ Beowvlf
Yeah. So.

45:10
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah.

45:10
DJ Beowvlf
Well, you've been doing the lot of touring, so.

45:13
Skylar Gudasz
Indeed.

45:13
DJ Beowvlf
That's. Must feel pretty fortunate.

45:15
Skylar Gudasz
I do. I feel very lucky.

45:18
DJ Beowvlf
Awesome.

45:18
Skylar Gudasz
Thanks for listening, everybody.

45:20
DJ Beowvlf
Yeah, I feel like we're coming to the close.

45:24
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah. Thank you, Miriam.

45:25
DJ Beowvlf
Good luck at the end of your.

45:28
Skylar Gudasz
End of your tenure here.

45:29
DJ Beowvlf
Thank you.

45:30
Skylar Gudasz
Spine Establishment.

45:31
DJ Beowvlf
It's my last day. Oh, my gosh. Glad I got to spend it with you.

45:36
Skylar Gudasz
Yes.

45:37
DJ Beowvlf
Later.

45:38
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah.

45:39
DJ Beowvlf
Lots of awesome ladies.

45:40
Skylar Gudasz
It's gonna be right sweet.

45:42
DJ Beowvlf
Well, would you like to close off with the song?

45:46
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah, why don't we close out with the really sad song from my album called Aviary to just ensure everybody's got the--

45:57
DJ Beowvlf
To bum everyone out?

45:57
Skylar Gudasz
Yeah. Great afternoon, everyone.
